A Lifetime with Exotic Animals
I have been involved in keeping exotic animals, birds and reptiles for over 50 years.
Growing up, flying squirrels and a mynah bird were simply part of everyday life. That early exposure to wildlife sparked a lifelong fascination that continued into adulthood, where my collection expanded to include bearded dragons, corn snakes, boas and Burmese pythons, among many others.
Over time, this passion became a family hobby, passed down to my own children and shared across generations.
A Background in Sustainability
Alongside my love of animals, I trained and worked as a horticulturalist, which naturally led to a strong interest in environmental sustainability.
Understanding ecosystems, soil health and the importance of balanced environments has shaped how I approach invertebrate keeping today.
Healthy enclosures mirror healthy ecosystems — and that philosophy underpins everything at Wiggly Woodlice.
Discovering Woodlice
My journey into isopods began unexpectedly after winning a mystery bundle from an online breeder.
What started as curiosity quickly became fascination.
The diversity, behaviour and ecological importance of woodlice captured my attention — and from there, the passion grew into a focused breeding project built around ethics and quality.
More Than a Hobby
In my spare time, I am also a self-taught taxidermist and enjoy educating others about conservation and sustainable practices.
